Millions of iPhone users are receiving an urgent warning as Apple automatically activates the “dangerous” Apple Intelligence feature. Since the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro/Max smartphones now come with artificial intelligence (AI) features enabled by default, Apple Intelligence gathers data from apps and adds action to them.

Users of iPhones have been alerted of a “dangerous” function that some Apple devices have automatically activated after a software upgrade.

Artificial intelligence (AI) functions for iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro/Max devices now function by default with the release of iOS 18.3. It used to be necessary for users to manually turn them on.

In addition to extracting data from apps and adding action within them, Apple Intelligence necessitates large amounts of storage. Regardless of the device it runs on, the AI system will consume 7GB, according to tech experts.

Additionally, some analysts have referred to the AI system as “dangerous,” namely because of its Notification Summaries feature. Using artificial intelligence (AI), this function summarises several notifications from the same apple “to make them more succinct and easier to read,” according to Apple.

However, Notification Summaries has misinterpreted alerts on multiple occasions, producing news headlines that are either utterly false or deceptive. There may be benefits to this kind of feature, but “the technology is not there yet and there is a real danger of spreading disinformation,” according to Petros Iosifidis, a professor of media policy at City University in London, who spoke to BBC News.

If you downloaded iOS 18.3 but do not want the AI system activated, you will need to manually adjust the default setting. To do this, launch the Settings app, scroll down, and choose Apple Intelligence & Siri.

Then, when prompted, select “Turn Off Apple Intelligence” and toggle it off. The latest iPhone models use Apple Intelligence, an artificial intelligence system introduced in December. According to Apple, it integrates several new AI-powered features and capabilities into the iPhone to simplify daily chores.

Since then, Apple has turned off the news and entertainment notification feature, claiming to be working to resolve the problem. Other notification types, such as your communications, can still be summarised via Notification Summaries. It has also been known to interfere with that.

Author of The Ultimate Privacy Playbook and data privacy expert Chip Hallett has cautioned that Apple Intelligence can access private data kept in your apps.

According to Mr. Hallett, Apple Intelligence will study how you use location maps, banking apps, and other financial apps.
