Changes to the Graduate Rules. Students’ maintenance obligations will increase starting on November 11, 2025. For students applying for immigration status under the “Student” route on or after November 11, 2025, we would like to draw attention to a significant modification in this statement.
For individuals applying through the student route on or after November 11, 2025, the sums of money that students must have on hand as proof of fulfilling the maintenance requirements are growing. The following are the updated amounts:
- £1529 a month (for a maximum of nine months) in London
- £1171 a month (for a maximum of nine months) outside of London
In accordance with the modifications to the maintenance requirement, the maximum amount of money that can be deducted for accommodations will also be raised. For applicants using the student path on or after November 11, 2025, this will be £1529.
See UKCISA – international student advice and guidance – Student route: eligibility and requirements for a description of the “financial requirements” for applicants using the “student” immigration route.
Modifications to the Graduate program starting in January 2027
Beginning in 2027, some candidates will experience a change in the duration of a permission grant under the Graduate route.
Successful Graduate route applications will be given 18 months of permission if they are submitted on or after January 1, 2027, for individuals with student permission in the UK who have successfully completed an approved UK bachelor’s or master’s degree. This is less than the two-year grant that is already in place. The Immigration White Paper, published in May 2025, made this prediction. Anyone applying through the Graduate route prior to January 1, 2027, is exempt from the changes.
Additionally, those who successfully finish a PhD or other doctorate degree will not be impacted by the changes and will still be granted authorisation for three years.
Please visit UKCISA’s page on the Graduate path for additional information.
Following a thorough analysis, we will offer a summary of any additional revisions to this Statement that may be pertinent to students.
