Government steps up immigration raids UK: After employing unauthorised labour, the car wash boss was prohibited. After hiring illegal workers, the proprietor of a car wash in Lincolnshire was given a five-year ban from operating the business.

The workers from Syria and Egypt were employed by Mohamed Hamza, 34, of Granville Road, Peterborough, to work at M&H Car Wash on Enterprise Way in Pinchbeck, close to Spalding.

The two employees, a guy in his 20s and a man in his 30s, were found during an immigration enforcement visit in 2022, and the company was fined £20,000.

“Anyone who believes they can make money from working illegally in the UK should reconsider,” said Dame Angela Eagle, the minister of border security and asylum. I’m happy to see that justice has been done.

Because of his disqualification, Hamza is unable to promote, form, or run a business in the UK without a judge’s approval.

When the company entered liquidation in August 2022 with liabilities over £44,000, the fine remained unpaid, according to the Insolvency Service.

“A serious breach of legislation and of the standards expected of company directors” is how Insolvency Service chief investigator Kevin Read characterised Hamza’s behaviour.

Dame Angela went on to say: “We are aware that many individuals who enter the UK and work illegally do so in appalling conditions and are regularly misled about their capacity to live and work here.

To combat smuggling groups and ensure that those who misuse our immigration system face the full repercussions, we are intensifying our enforcement efforts.
