According to the Home Office, the India Young Professional Scheme’s second (and last) ballot will go live on July 22, 2025, and end on July 24, 2025.

Nationals of both nations may apply to live, study, travel, and work in each other’s countries under the reciprocal program. The ballot system is not used in the reciprocal Indian program. Rather, qualified people are welcome to apply at any time of the year.

The circumstances

The India Young Professional Scheme’s second (and last) poll for 2025 will open on July 22, 2025, and finish on July 24, 2025, according to the Home Office. Successful applicants can spend 24 months living, working, and studying in the UK under the program.

A closer examination

  • Ballot period: On July 22, 2025, at 13:30 Indian Standard Time, the second ballot for the 2025 India Young Professional Scheme will commence, and on July 24, 2025, it will finish at the same time.
  • Program details: Indian nationals aged 18 to 30 or who would turn 18 on the date of travel under the plan, possess a bachelor’s degree or higher, have savings of at least GBP 2,530, and have no children under the age of 18 living with them or supporting them, are eligible to vote. After being chosen by ballot, those chosen to have ninety days to apply for a visa under the program, submit biometrics, and pay the visa application price (which includes the immigration health premium).
  • Quota: The United Kingdom is offering 3,000 slots under the program in 2025; the majority of these spots were previously given out in the poll for February 2025. This July ballot will determine the remaining 2025 spots.
  • Costs: While voting is free, applying for the scheme costs GBP 319. Individuals who are not selected in the next round might reapply in subsequent ballots.
  • Reciprocal arrangement: There is no ballot procedure in the reciprocal Indian scheme. Instead, qualified individuals can apply for the so-called “Employment Visa-E 1” at any time of the year.

Background

  • Previous ballots: The India Young Professionals Scheme ballots were held in February and July of 2024 in the United Kingdom. In February 2025, the scheme’s first poll for the 2025 intake was conducted.
  • Other youth mobility schemes: The UK’s Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS), which enables individuals from participating nations or territories to experience life in the UK, is comparable to the Indian Young Professional Scheme (IYPS). Voting is also used to choose citizens of certain nations that qualify under the YMS, such Taiwan and Hong Kong. However, applicants under the UK’s YMS scheme are exempt from proving any educational credentials, unlike those under the IYPS.
  • UK-India migration partnership: The UK-India Mobility and Migration Partnership, which was signed in May 2021 and contains pledges to improve migration arrangements and initiatives to fortify collaboration between India and the UK over immigration violations, includes the Young Professionals Scheme.
